Restore Oh Lord, the Honour of Your Name

Many years after the prophets foretold what God would do through the land and people of Israel, we live in a time when we can see these great things come to pass. The State of Israel was re-established in 1948 and more Jewish people are returning to the land. The ‘impossible’ becomes possible in the hands of God. Miracles can now be seen in the pages of history.

Let’s pray for the day when God will capture the whole of the heart of Israel.

But why should we pray for the Jewish people?  Well, primarily because we love God, and Israel’s salvation will bring glory to him. Also, we pray because God loves them as we see in Deuteronomy 7 v6-8, and because their salvation will bring God’s blessing to the nations (see Romans 11 v11-15).

Essentially, we read in Ezekiel 36 v22-23:

‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.’

Remember the words to the 1981 song, ‘Restore, oh Lord, the honour of your name …

Let us pray constantly for Israel, the people, the land, and all those who live within its borders; but also for the honour of God’s name.

Pray for the Church internationally and in your locality, for its leaders and fellowships, to see these things in line with Scripture, as a true revelation from the Lord.

Pray for all Christian MPs and government aides to cry out for godly wisdom and discernment and God’s favour as they strive to restore the honour of his name in our society.

Pray for the younger generations, inside and outside of our churches, to have a supernatural encounter with their Heavenly Father – to fully understand the Hebraic roots of their faith and to have a hunger for the word of God in every area of their lives, so the Church will be revitalised.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.’ (Zechariah 4 v6)
