Serving the Poor
Clothing and Food: The poor and needy of Israel are helped in a variety of ways through Doors of Hope. These people may be immigrants in their 2nd to 5th years in Israel or native Israelis. They come to Doors of Hope by pre-arranged appointment to receive individual care and to pick out high quality, used clothing and linens sent by Christians of the nations. Food vouchers are also distributed. Smiling recipients can usually be heard saying, "Spasiba belshoy" or "Todah rabah", which is Russian and Hebrew for "Many thanks".
Financial Aid: People in financial crisis may apply for monetary assistance. After contact is made with their Social Workers and other due diligence is performed by Doors of Hope staff, the Financial Assistance Committee prays and reviews the applications and approves requests, as possible. We cannot solve all of each person's problems, but we can share the compassion of God, and encourage each one with the resources the Lord has provided.
One example is of a single mother with disabled eight-year-old twin boys and their 11-year-old sister who is developmentally delayed. The boys still have to wear diapers due to their disabilities and one is severely autistic. Doors of Hope has been able to help with financial assistance for a new hot water tank, a grocery store debt, and towards a new washing machine. In addition, this mother is a regular client on our clothing program and receives food vouchers as necessary. She says, "Each time I come to you, I feel good and I almost forget about my troubles."
With single parents coming in almost every day, we have a unique opportunity to connect with this disadvantaged group. One mom of a five-year-old boy wrote, "Our gas had already been cut off, our electricity had almost been cut off, and the check for the rent was Non-Sufficient Funds. Without your help, we would have been thrown out to live on the streets.. I don't cease to thank the Lord that at that very time, your organization took care of us." Another mom said, "Thank you for your prayers for my little girl – she is much better – like a new baby!"
Stories such as these are repeated time and time again. A mosaic of people enter Doors of Hope, ranging from pensioners, single parents, needy families and disabled, to those who live on the streets. Every effort is made to meet each one's need and to give that special item that will let them know we care as Christians.
English Classes
Conversational English classes at the Distribution Center
Two Conversational English classes, one for beginners and one for more advanced students, are conducted weekly by an English-speaking volunteer. The lessons encourage students to be able to converse with English-speaking people in Israel and also facilitate friendships among the immigrant students. Some topics of spiritual significance are discussed (such as study of Feast Days in the Bible), so that students are encouraged to relate to their Jewish heritage and to the God of Israel.
How You Can Help Doors of Hope
Your help is needed at this time so Project Doors of Hope can continue to be a source of hope and blessing to the many people who walk through their doors. In these days of increasing cuts in social programs and economic difficulties, they are seeing more and more people come whose circumstances are desperate.
- Your partnership with Doors of Hope will help to uphold and fulfill the Church's responsibility to Israel, which includes being a key instrument in the Hands of God to touch His Chosen People with His love.
- Prayer - The first priority is always prayer:
"praying always, with all supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints " (Ephesians 6 :18).
- Donations - You may place your donations securely online via the link on the previous page.
Thank you for prayerfully considering to help make a difference.
