An irrational and excessive bashing of Israel

Wednesday 11th November was not just a day for remembering the members of armed forces who have died in the service of their country. A smaller act of remembrance was held at the United Nations on Wednesday evening. It was a meeting held to recall the vitally important speech delivered to the UN 40 years ago by Chaim Herzog – a speech that denounced the world body for adopting the infamous “Zionism is racism” resolution (UN resolution 3379).

More than 500 people at Wednesday’s meeting heard from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as others. Speaking via a video link, Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his admiration for Chaim Herzog and said that even today “There is an irrational and obsessive bashing of Israel” at the UN; and that “Unfortunately it remains par for the course in all too many UN bodies.
