Widespread protests have broken out again around the Middle East, fueled by some of the long-term tensions that dominate events within countries and relationships between countries.
Here is Jeremy Bowen’s latest contribution to exploring those tensions, a 10-minute review of the situation for the BBC.
It starts with a detailed look at the current protests in Lebanon, where things have been done in a relatively peaceful manner, and then it moves on to a brief look at the situation in Iraq, where the government’s response to protests has been very different, and also Iran.
UPDATE 17-Dec-2019
The response of the security forces in Lebanon has turned violent over the weekend of 14th & 15th, with dozens of protestors being injured.
