Ancient Prophecy Overrules Lockdown

More than 2,500 years ago, Isaiah was one of the prophets who spoke of the Jewish people returning to the Land of Israel from the countries to which they had been scattered.

‘Lift up your eyes and look about you: all assemble and come to you;
your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip.’

(Isaiah 60:4)

In the early days of the coronavirus lockdown, it looked as if the flow of Jewish immigrants to Israel might stop for health reasons. The Israeli government suspended a long-awaited airlift of more than 250 Ethiopian Jews scheduled for the month of March, leaving the first group of 50 in limbo for weeks.

However, it was reported last week that 119 of them had finally made the journey and fulfilled their dream of making Aliyah. The plane carrying them landed in Israel on 21st May, as the country marked the annual Memorial Day for Ethiopian Jews who died in previous years on their way to the Jewish state.

The latest group of arrivals were greeted by the new Immigration Absorption Minister, Pnina Tamano-Shata, the first female Ethiopian-born minister in Israel’s history. She said:

“It’s a huge privilege to welcome these 119 wonderful [immigrants] from Ethiopia
just as I begin my position.”

But those 119 were not the only Jewish immigrants to make the journey to Israel during the lockdown. Around 580 have arrived since February, including 465 Russian-speaking Jews from various parts of the former Soviet Union, as well the Ethiopian Jews.

This continued flow of Jews back to the Promised Land, in accordance with the ancient prophecies, is giving cause for celebration and praise to God, as shown in this video:
