Israel and terrorist factions in Gaza are reported to have agreed a ceasefire early this morning after violence flared up on Tuesday 2nd May following the death of a hunger-striking terrorist in an Israeli prison. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) say that a total of 104 rockets and mortar shells were fired into Israel.
The ceasefire agreement went into effect at dawn, having been mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations. However, a rocket alert went off near the southern Israeli community of Nir Am shortly after that.
Nevertheless, the IDF decided that activity can resume in the Israeli communities on the Gaza border as normal with no special security measures in place.
Most of the missiles were shot down or landed in open spaces. But one hit a construction site in the city of Sderot, moderately wounding a 25-year-old foreign national and lightly wounding two others.
