New Defence Against Hypersonic Missiles

In response to the threat from Iran, Israel has unveiled its new advanced air defence system, the Skysonic, which is said to be the first of its kind to respond to the danger presented by hypersonic missiles.

The Israelis say that Skysonic can intercept incoming missiles traveling at five times the speed of sound on a complex trajectory.

They did not specify when the Israeli military might deploy the Skysonic system but it will be shown for the first time at the Paris Air Show next week.

It was on Tuesday 6th June that Iran unveiled its new hypersonic ballistic missile which it claims is capable of breaching defence systems - something that would clearly be of concern for Israel and the West in general.

Dismissing scepticism over its development of hypersonic missiles, Iran said this new Fattah missile has a range of 870 miles and can fly at speeds up to Mach 15 (3.2 miles per second).
