Yesterday afternoon, after the failure to reach a compromise, the Knesset approved the Reasonableness Bill, which is the first element of the government’s proposed judicial reforms.
Some described the response as chaos in Israel, with the anti-reform protests increasing in scale and facing police late into the night. There were more instances of violence and injuries as tempers frayed.
However, Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying:
"In the coming days the Coalition will contact the Opposition in order to hold a dialogue between us. We are ready to discuss everything immediately and do it in the round of talks during the recess and reach a comprehensive agreement on everything. And, if necessary, we will add more time until the end of November. It is more than enough time to reaching agreement on everything."
But the Opposition had boycotted the final vote on the bill, showing allegiance with the protesters, and have rejected the offer by prime minister Netanyahu to now engage in negotiations over the other parts of the proposed reforms.
