US Secretary of State Antony Blinken seemed satisfied after his meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas last week. Afterwards it was reported that Blinken had thanked Abbas and his team for their work to calm the situation for the benefit of Palestinians, Israelis, and tens of thousands of Americans who also live in the area.
In addition, he reaffirmed the US commitment to cooperate with the Palestinian leadership and people on efforts to ensure security for all.
But while Mahmoud Abbas was telling Antony Blinken what he wanted to hear, his administration was preparing to pay generous rewards to the families of around 1,500 Hamas terrorists who attacked southern Israel in such a barbaric manner on Saturday 7th October.
The Palestinian Media Watch research group have reminded everyone that ‘Under Palestinian Authority law, every terrorist who is killed attacking Israel is defined as a “Martyr” whose family is immediately rewarded with a 6,000 shekels ($1,511) grant and a 1,400 ($353) per month allowance for life.’ This means that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is due to pay out at least 11,100,000 shekels ($2,789,430) this month to those families.
Not having sufficient income of its own to cover such payments, the PA is reliant on generous donors like the USA, Europe, and the UK, to be able to do this in addition to paying for essential services for its people.
It really is time for this shocking ‘pay to slay’ policy to stop. Alternatively, the generous donors should stop giving substantial sums of their taxpayers’ money to the PA.
