Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, delivered a clear, powerful message to the international media this evening, highlighting the need for the civilised world to fight the barbarians in the world, because those barbarians will fight the civilised.
He claimed that this is now a turning point for nations to decide whether they are willing to fight for a future of hope and promise or surrender to tyranny and terror, and then assured his audience that Israel will fight.
Netanyahu emphasised that Israel has been at war with Hamas since Saturday 7th October – a war that Israel did not start and Israel did not want. And he reiterated that Hamas started this war with an attack that involved the worst savagery the Jewish people have seen since the Holocaust.
He went on to make it clear that Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after that horrific attack, explaining that calls for a ceasefire are “calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism."
"That will not happen. Ladies and gentlemen, the Bible says that there is a time for peace and a time for war. This is a time for war – a war for our common future.”
