Surreal Experience of Terror Tunnel

Joel Rosenberg of All Israel News, accompanied by Chris Mitchell of CBN News, had the chilling experience of visiting recently-discovered terror tunnels underneath Khan Yunis, never seen by reporters before.

Guided by a general from the IDF, they went into a long, narrow, hot, humid and deep tunnel around 25 metres below ground level. And soon, Joel was standing in one of the prison cells where at least 12 Israeli hostages were held until recently.

He says: "It was a surreal moment to wake up in Jerusalem, and then a few hours later, to be standing in this epicentre of evil. It was hard to process but that wasn’t all."

Nearby were some living quarters that were used by senior Hamas commanders, probably including Yaya Sinwar, the Hamas terrorist leader in the Gaza Strip. It was here that they worked, slept, ate, and commanded this war during the last four months. It was clear that those Hamas leaders had been forced to leave quickly as the IDF came surging into the tunnels.

The IDF general said this type of fighting has never been done in the history of the military of the world - fighting in such an extensive network of tunnels. He said it’s the first time and his troops are living it day in, day out, learning, making mistakes, moving back, moving again and synchronising between troops above ground and troops below ground.
