Are Hamas Serious about Ceasefire?

There is much concern today over the status of ceasefire negotiations, which seem to be stalled. Various reports are coming from Egypt where talks continue in Cairo without any Israeli representatives. But there seems to be a major stumbling block in Hamas’ refusal to provide a list of which hostages are still alive.

Most people consider Israel’s request for a list quite reasonable, rather than expecting them to proceed with an agreement that might yield some very nasty surprises. And Hamas are also holding firm on their demand for a complete end to the fighting rather than a temporary pause - even if it is six weeks long.

So, many of us are wondering whether Hamas are serious about negotiating a ceasefire, or whether they have decided to continue the fighting, hoping that international pressure on Israel will force them to stop.
