On Monday 18th March the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) launched a new operation at the Shifa hospital in Gaza, having become aware that many terrorists had returned there. In an update on the operation given on Wednesday 20th March, an IDF spokesman described some significant achievements.
Speaking from an area of the hospital complex where terrorists fought against the troops who entered on Monday, he said the IDF have arrested more than 250 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists who have been identified. They are also investigating more than 350 other people whom they suspect are connected to terrorism.
Up to the time of his message, Daniel Hagari said that no civilians, doctors, or medical teams had been hurt, and that the IDF were supplying food, water, generators, and the help of technicians to fix the problems with the electricity supply in the Emergency Room.
As well as weaponry and ammunition, the IDF have also found more than 11 million shekels in the compound (more than 2.4 million pounds sterling), money used by Hamas to support its terrorists in northern Gaza.
