The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have released the interim findings of their investigation into the air strikes that killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers on Monday night. They say it was a combination of misidentification and a series of grave mistakes.
An aid convoy had delivered tons of aid to a warehouse in the Gaza Strip and the seven workers were leaving to return to their base in three vehicles that were attacked one after another. The IDF have shown video footage of a gunman shooting, apparently to keep Gazan civilians away from the convoy.
It seems that the local team of IDF drone operators had not received full information about the location of the aid workers and they could not see the WCK logos on the roofs of two of the cars.
As a result of the investigation, two senior IDF commanders have been dismissed and another three have been formally censured for their part in the overall operation.
