UK to Continue Arms Sales

Events of the last few days seem to have eased British concerns regarding Israel’s conduct in the war with Hamas. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said today that the latest assessment leaves the UK’s position on export licenses unchanged.

He went on to say this is consistent with the advice that he and other ministers have received and that they will keep the position under review. This means that the UK Government has concluded that Israel is not committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

That conclusion comes after the detailed explanation given last week of the mistakes that the Israel Defence Forces made which led to the tragic killing of seven humanitarian aid workers on Monday 1st April.

Lord Cameron also said that:

“Israel remains a vital defence and security partner to the UK.
Our cooperation makes the UK and Israel more secure from external threats.”
