As Israelis wait anxiously for the official Hamas response to Israel’s latest ceasefire offer - an "extraordinarily generous" one - it looks as if the widespread pro-Palestinian college protests in America may have encouraged Hamas to say ‘no deal’ again.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is said to be urging Hamas to accept ‘if they truly care about the people in Gaza.’ But that plea will surprise many, as the evidence of the last six months is that Hamas does not care at all about the people of Gaza, other than to use them as human shields.
Meanwhile, police have been acting to disperse the US college protests. The nationwide total of arrests today is said to be around one thousand.
On the University of California Los Angeles campus there were clashes when police moved to dismantle the encampment. And at the University of Texas, police explained that almost half of the people arrested are not students but have joined the protests from outside the campus.
They found a variety of weapons when they arrested some of these agitators, including guns, mallets and other items.
