Hamas Strikes Aid Crossing

On Sunday afternoon Hamas fired a barrage of 10 rockets at the Kerem Shalom crossing, which has been the main crossing used for moving humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip for some months now.  Four Israeli soldiers were killed in the strike and at least three others are reported to be seriously wounded, prompting Israel to close the crossing.

The Israelis say the rockets were fired from a position within the city of Rafah, an area just a short distance from civilian shelters and near to the Rafah Crossing with Egypt, which is also used for the shipment of aid into Gaza.

This attack came at a very sensitive time, when the Israelis were still waiting for a formal response from Hamas to their latest offer for a ceasefire - an offer that US and UK officials have describe as "extraordinarily generous" on Israel’s part.

In this interview with Fox, Enia Krivine, the Senior Director of the Israel Programme at the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, explains why the attack indicates Hamas has very little interest in coming to any kind of peaceful agreement with Israel and cares very little about civilians in Gaza.
