Early in the afternoon on Saturday, the Israel Defence Forces spokesman, Daniel Hagari, made an announcement that gave fresh hope to all those who have been longing and praying for the release of the Israelis held hostage in the Gaza Strip.
"At 11am, Israeli Special Forces conducted a complex hostage rescue mission
and successfully rescued four of our hostages from Hamas captivity in Gaza;
Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv.
They are back home in Israel. They are alive. They are well.They will undergo
medical examination and will soon be reunited with their families in the hospital."
He acknowledged that it was a high-risk, complex mission, based on precise intelligence, and conducted in daylight. The four hostages, all abducted from the Supernova music festival site on 7th October, were rescued from two separate buildings in Gaza while the rescuers were under fire both inside and outside the buildings.
The Times of Israel reports that Noa Argamani was rescued from one site and the three men from another. The rescue was conducted by officers of the Israeli police’s elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit, supported by Shin Bet agents and hundreds of IDF soldiers.
Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said: "This is one of the most impressive, heroic operations I have seen throughout my 47 years in the security establishment."
