Misrepresentation of contributions by three Israeli women’s rights professionals by The Times magazine is only one example of the global battle for truth that has erupted over the Hamas-Israel fighting in Gaza.
The latest example involves the Biden ceasefire proposal. Hamas have finally responded after a delay of 11 days and have not accepted it. But many news outlets are avoiding the word ‘rejected’ and instead describe Hamas as:
- proposing ‘amendments,’ or
- still requiring ‘an Israeli commitment to a permanent ceasefire,’ or
- responding ‘with some "remarks" on the plan.’
But given that Hamas has not accepted the proposal, they have effectively rejected it. Yet this LiveNOW report from Fox is one of the few to describe that rejection. So, many people are trying to hide the truth of Hamas’ rejection.
Another example was highlighted by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) on Monday, with their review of the BBC’s news reports on the Israeli hostage rescue operation. Three of those reports omitted important information about the Nuseirat refugee camp location of the rescue. That camp is run by UNRWA, and thus evidence of UNRWA co-operation with Hamas was hidden.
And the BBC has demonstrated many shortcomings in its coverage of the fighting. A significant one came in a 19th January article titled ‘Netanyahu publicly rejects US push for Palestinian state,’ which effectively accused the Israelis of widespread indiscriminate bombing in the Gaza Strip.

That accusation is the opposite of the truth, as shown by Honest Reporting in this YouTube video:
And so, the battle for truth is long-running and continues. It would be good for more people to speak and write the truth.
