On Wednesday, Hezbollah increased the intensity of its attacks on Israel by launching at least 215 rockets and other projectiles. Many were shot down by Israeli defences, while others landed causing some damage and fires but no casualties.
This is the terror group’s largest barrage since it started firing at Israel on 8th October 2023. It was a response to Israel’s killing of Taleb Sami Abdullah, the most senior Hezbollah commander to die in the fighting thus far.
Because of its timing on the Jewish festival of Shavuot, Israel’s newspapers headlined the day as Shavuot Under Fire.
However, this seems to be elevating the bombardment to a level which will prompt much stronger action by Israel - effectively a full-blown war on the northern front.
After suffering multiple rocket warning sirens and hostile aircraft alerts again on Thursday, leaders in northern Israel have demanded that the government puts forward an immediate plan to restore the security of northern communities.
