Early in Ukraine’s defensive war against Russia, Israeli psychiatrist Dr Gary Quinn volunteered to help Ukrainian therapists deal with people suffering from trauma. He introduced them to the Immediate Stabilization Procedure (ISP) he had developed, which the Ukrainians now credit as their most valuable tool.
Dr Quinn said, "All of the therapists themselves were at a very high level of stress, because of the war, and had to do the ISP first to calm them down."
That initial support led to collaboration with Dr Olya Zaporozhets, Regent University, the Israel Trauma Coalition, and the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), to modify and adjust the method.
According to Dr Quinn, the product came back in a better condition, "much more streamlined and much more effective and efficient in helping people."
Russian-speaking Israeli counsellors have experienced that recently through a training session run by Dr Zaporozhets and two of her colleagues from Ukraine. The training was run in Kfar Maccabiah, near Tel Aviv in Israel, in co-operation with the Israel Trauma Coalition.
