Late on Wednesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres once again called for an “immediate cessation” of an Israeli operation, this time in the region of Judea and Samaria, otherwise known as the ‘West Bank’.
His call came in the middle of the biggest security operation in the area for years, with ground forces and airstrikes that, according to Palestinian media, had killed 17 people by Thursday. Guterres expressed deep concern over airstrikes and damage to public infrastructure, and strongly condemned the loss of lives.
But it seems likely his main concern was that these:
“dangerous developments” were “fuelling an already explosive situation in the
occupied West Bank and further undermining the Palestinian Authority.”
A UK Foreign Office spokesperson expressed similar concerns on Friday, saying:
“The UK is deeply concerned by the ongoing IDF military operation
in the occupied West Bank.
“We recognise Israel’s need to defend itself against security threats,
but we are deeply worried by the methods Israel has employed and by
reports of civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.”
Both statements reflect the lack of international understanding of the severity of the situation Israel faces, under attack from seven different directions. There seems to be an expectation that Israel should accept frequent terrorist attacks and incoming rocket fire from Hamas, Hezbollah, and others, just so that the rest of the world can avoid confronting the Iranian regime and its widespread promotion of Islamist terrorism against Israel.
The following short video, posted by All Israel News, shows what Israel Security Forces found in the form of a terror operations centre and explosives laboratory inside a mosque during this counter-terrorism effort. It is outrageous that terrorists repeatedly set up facilities like these in buildings supposed to be religious facilities..
