Israel Removes Head of Hezbollah

On Friday evening, Israel mounted a huge air attack on Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in the city of Beirut, killing Hassan Nasrallah, the prominent terrorist who has led the organisation for 32 years. He was killed in a meeting, alongside other leaders such as Ali Karaki, Hezbollah’s new military chief.

Nasrallah’s death came just over one week from the detonation of thousands of pagers and radios used by Hezbollah members – an attack widely attributed to Israel. Friday’s attack was the culmination of a rapid series of strikes that have killed half of Hezbollah’s leadership council and decimated its top terrorist commanders.

It is said to be the result of 20 years of Israeli intelligence efforts focused upon Hezbollah.

The following interview, with Middle east expert Hal Kempfer, highlights Nasrallah’s responsibility for the deaths of 241 US service members in the 1983 Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, the deaths of 85 people in a suicide attack upon the Jewish community in Buenos Aries in 1994, and helping the Assad regime kill 500,000 people in Syria during the recent civil war.

Friday’s attack has huge significance for Israel and the Middle East.
