Hezbollah’s leaders have changed their views about a ceasefire, apparently because of the setbacks they have suffered during Israel’s recent assault upon the terrorist group.
Reports on Wednesday even described Hezbollah as being desperate, shown by the fact that they have dropped their demand that a ceasefire with Israel in the north must be linked to a ceasefire in Gaza.
Responding to a question from a reporter, US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller confirmed the report, saying:
"So for a year, you had the world calling for this ceasefire.
You had Hezbollah refusing to agree to one.
And now that Hezbollah is on the back foot and is getting battered,
suddenly they’ve changed their tune and want a ceasefire.
I think it’s not surprising, given the situation they find themselves in."
Benjamin Netanyahu has used Israel’s successes to urge the people of Lebanon to rise up against Hezbollah and take back control of their country, returning it to a path of peace and prosperity.
The world waits to see how they will respond. Support for Hezbollah in Lebanon is not as great as the support for Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
