Inappropriate Call for Action

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the UK called for a workplace day of action on Thursday 28th November in support of Palestinian workers who, they claim, remain steadfast in pursuing ‘their struggle for freedom and justice.’

That call has been echoed by trade unions such as Unison, the public service union, and PCS, the Public and Commercial Services Union for staff in UK government and the civil service.

It is completely inappropriate for these public service unions to call for action in support of a cause that is heavily involved with terrorism. Such support clearly indicates bias against Israel as it tries to defend its citizens, in favour of groups who prefer to sacrifice their civilians.

Particularly troubling is the fact that the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) joined the call and distributed directives from the Trade Union Congress, urging workers to dress in Palestinian colours, or wear a keffiyeh on the day.

If many journalists support this cause, what hope is there for unbiased reporting on events involving Israel?

The NUJ has confirmed that some BBC journalists have resigned from the union because of this call. One member of staff described the idea as a clear breach of the BBC’s commitment to impartial reporting.

Indeed, this type of action should be a breach of all news organisations’ guidelines.

There would be a greater chance of peace if these unions called for a release of the hostages held by the terrorists, instead of just calling for a ceasefire.

The following video by Middle East Eye shows protestors blocking the entrance to the UK Foreign Office and Trade Department as part of the action, once again shouting the false claim of genocide.
