`I urge then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving
be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority,
that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.`
1 Timothy 2:1-2

In June, Israel saw a new government form and Naftali Bennett sworn-in as then new Prime Minister after four elections and two years of uncertainty. The nation was surely ready for more stability and a focus by its leaders on the concerns of the Israeli people.

These were the words prayed by Naftali Bennett who will be Prime Minister for the first two years of the four-year term, before handing over to Yair Lapid, the other leader of this latest coalition government.

Heavenly Father, Rock and Redeemer of Israel,
bless the State of Israel, the first flourishing of our redemption.
Guard it in your abundant kindness, spread over it the shelter of your peace.
Send forth your light and truth to its leaders, ministers, and advisors,
and grace them with your good counsel.
Strengthen the hands of those who guard our holy land,
grant them deliverance and adorn them in victory.
Give peace in the land and grant its inhabitants eternal happiness.
With God’s help, we will do, and we will succeed. Amen.

Many believers in other nations in what’s now to some, a post-Christian era, would love to hear their leaders pray with such heart and focus for their responsibility and legacy. No other nation but Israel has such a specific God-given legacy, as a people set apart for God’s purposes.

Use this prayer as a foundation for your time of prayer for Israel and the Jewish nation:

God as Rock and Redeemer: Give thanks that God is indeed The Rock, seen in Psalm 18:1-3, and pray the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people of the diaspora see the uniqueness of their role, that to them were given the Patriarchs, the word of God and the Jewish Messiah. Pray for reality of God’s covenants to be known in the hearts of both society and government.

Pray into the impact of Genesis 12:1-3, for the blessings for Israel and those who bless her.

Pray for those in authority and leadership, and those who guard Israel and must see God’s purposes.  Pray that this will be seen by the nations.

Give peace to the Land – pray for a wave of intercession and understanding in line with the command to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122). Pray that this becomes the heart cry of Christians, the Jewish people, Jews, Arabs and others living within the Land of Israel.

Strengthen your government - we pray Lord; and even though we sense your shakings in these days, we pray your will be done through them and your kingdom to be seen through them.

We pray too that all Israel will be aware physically and spiritually that their defence is in God and never their own strength or military prowess. Exodus 23:22 says ‘But if you truly obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.` Pray for revelation of Psalm 20:7, that they will trust in the name of the Lord.
